Privacy
Last updated October 2026. Plain-language summary of what Banana News collects and why.
The short version
- No ads and no third-party trackers or analytics scripts.
- We keep the least we need to run your account, your daily banana allowance and your plan.
- We never sell or rent personal information.
What we store
- Account: your e-mail address, a salted hash of your password (never the password itself), your plan and its renewal dates, and the settings you choose (language, region, bookmarks, alerts).
- Payments: handled by the payment provider you pick (card, PayPal, crypto or Venmo). We keep the plan, amount, date and the provider's reference. We never see or store full card numbers.
- Daily allowance: to count free bananas we keep a daily counter tied to your account, or for visitors without an account to a random cookie and short-lived salted hashes. These hashes cannot be turned back into an address and are deleted after a day or two.
- Traffic totals: page-view counts per day, country and referring site, kept only as totals. We do not log IP addresses or browser strings per visitor.
- Messages you send us (for example a support e-mail) are kept only as long as needed to answer them.
Cookies
We set only first-party cookies that make the site work: your sign-in session, a security token against forged requests, the visitor cookie for the free allowance, and your display choices (language, region, ticker on or off). There are no advertising cookies.
Videos, streams and other sites
Players for live streams and videos come from the publisher's own platform (for example YouTube, through its privacy-enhanced embed, the Internet Archive or TED) and load only after you press play. The weather radar map (RainViewer) also loads only after you press its button. Those services have their own privacy policies. Links to news stories take you to the publisher's site.
Your choices
- You can change your settings and cancel your plan at any time in Account, and ask us to delete your account at any time through the contact options on About.
- Deleting your account removes your e-mail, settings and saved items. Payment records we must keep by law are kept for the required period only.
Children
Banana News is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.
